Overview
This is an archival item. The Overlay passed the City Council at 2:55 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2021.
On October 7, 2021, the New Orleans City Council will vote on the University Area Overlay, which would replace the University Area Interim Zoning District (IZD) with an extended territory (and other provisions).
The matter will be taken up at 1 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1300 Perdido, City Hall.
The City Council will vote to make the University Area IZD permanent. The overlay extends protection to surrounding neighborhoods: so developers can’t add bedrooms without off-street parking. There are exemptions for homeowners and affordable housing.
